March 27, 2006 – Imagine a place where
when your schedule permits, you can take a vacation that’s a Late Model
racer’s dream. A race where the best Late Model racers of the Northeast
congregate doing battle to have fun and to see who’s number one. This
is the North East Late Model Association, also known as NELMA. And
after an off season of hard work, NELMA will be making their debut with
an exhibition race on Saturday, October 21, 2006 at Mountain Speedway,
in the heart of the Poconos of Pennsylvania.
The goal behind NELMA is an open
series where all Late Model type classes can compete on equal footing
with minor changes in the interest of good competition, good excitement,
and good reward. The series aims to provide a haven for racers who seek
excitement outside their regular weekly tracks, but does not seek to
steer them away from weekly tracks. The goal is to work with local
weekly tracks to provide a venue to promote their Late Model classes
across the Northeast.
The series is riding high on the
success of its producer’s (RacerHub Ventures) initial foray into the
race promoting business, with the Walt DeMorris Memorial Challenge. The
race dedicated to the late Walt DeMorris, featured an exciting upset
victory, with Mountain Speedway ace Larry Fisher being beat out by
Western New York hot shoe, Todd Hoddick for the win. The race was a
bona fide success for all those involved, from drivers to fans to
sponsors. Upon receiving a massive amount of positive feedback about
the race, NELMA was formed to satisfy the growing needs of Late Model
racers.
Now back at the site which propelled
the series into being, Mountain Speedway will debut the series on
Saturday, October 21, 2006 for the Late Model Challenge. The race is
being deemed an “exhibition” race, meaning that it will be non-points
and it will be a test for the continuation of the organization. If the
test proves successful, a series of around six races will be formed for
2007.
Racers are urged to sign up early to
reserve their numbers and guarantee entry into the historic first race
of the series. To sign up, please visit the official NELMA website at
